Trauma

The impact of trauma reaches deep and wide. Trauma experiences are life-shattering and often form a watershed moment, where life as you knew it, changed in a significant way. Trauma can also be something more subtle over time—an absence, such as not being validated for who we are, being made to feel ‘less than’ etc., that leaves lasting negative imprints on us. The ways in which we try cope, can either work for us, or against us. At Glow Within Counselling, I understand the profound effects that trauma can have on your life. I intently create a safe space for you to feel seen, heard, and understood as we explore your experiences together. By using relevant trauma informed therapeutic approaches tailored to your unique needs, we can work towards finding hope and a way to move forward.

I see great significance in the symbolism of the trauma healing process in the art of Japanese pottery repair, ‘Kintsugi’. "Kintsugi" is a traditional Japanese art that repairs broken pottery by filling the cracks with a lacquer mixed with gold powder. Instead of concealing the flaws, this method emphasizes them, resulting in a striking repair that often enhances the piece's value. Similarly, there is beauty in the broken pieces of our lives, when they are lovingly, respectfully and gently repaired, we notice the value of our story. My goal is to support you on your journey to healing and wholeness. Together, we can navigate the different pieces, the complexities of trauma and uncover the resilience and strength within you.
